General Sail Information

GHYC has an active sailboat program that includes both racers and cruisers. Our membership includes many very experienced sailors in both categories.

GHYC sponsors two major sailboat races each year. The Islands Race in March which is part of the Southern Sound Series held each winter, and the Lemans Race in November which is one of the most popular sailing events in the area featuring a unique start, in which boats start at anchor with sails down and the crew below decks.

Several lower-key events are held each year, including the Jack and Jill Race in September and the May Thursday evenings races, held within the confines of Gig Harbor.   Harbor races continue informally on Thursday evenings from June into September though not as a scored series.
Details on the sail events including registration notice of race (NOR) and results are shown in the sailing event links and are available 6-8 weeks prior to the event. Sailing Races are open to the public.
